Providing the sewing community with spectacular fabrics, fun classes, invaluable customer service and years of knowledge and experience in textile arts.

Fashion Affair Legacy

For twenty-five years Fashion Affair provided wonderful service and quality fabrics. When owner, Margit Hansen, decided to retire and close Fashion Affair's doors, I felt that our sewing community was at a huge loss. Not only were we losing the last great apparel fabric store in Utah, but we were also losing the customer service of Margit Hansen and Leena Mitchell. Their knowledge and experience in sewing and textile arts were invaluable.

As a former employee of Fashion Affair, I witnessed innumerable customers express gratitude for the years of service and the turmoil of losing our beloved store. Where would we shop now? No other store carried the standard of Fashion Affair. I had to step in and do something. I didn't know the first thing about starting a business, but I knew that I couldn't live without these beautiful textiles. On May 4th, 2009 the doors of the former Fashion Affair were opened once again as Yellow Bird Fabrics. I hope to keep the Fashion Affair legacy alive in my store.

Owner, Amy Royer

I have a strong tradition of sewing in my family. My mom is a wonderful seamstress and she was patient enough to teach me at a young age. I loved sewing and fashion in junior high and high school, but it wasn't until college that I discovered my passion for textiles. In 2004 I was an Apparel and Textiles student at Utah State University. I moved to Santiago Atitlan, Guatemala for a summer internship and learned how to weave on a back strap loom.

I started my own clothing line, experimenting with screen printing and creating my own textiles. I've worked for a couple of theaters creating costumes and I've also done custom sewing. Then I got a job at Fashion Affair and fell even deeper in love with textiles. I knew after working there, I would never be satisfied with any other job. I loved going to work everyday and being surrounded by beautiful fabrics. I feel so fortunate to own Yellow Bird Fabrics, it is a dream come true!

Amber Lee

Fabric is my passion and my life!

My first sewing experience was making a quilt with my mother. It took years to finish, and my hand quilting was far from perfect, but it started a love affair with sewing. Through high school I sewed costumes for the theater department, local colleges, and community theaters. This taught me the basics of design and sewing clothing. Fashion school is where I really began to flourish. I learned that I could design what I liked and wanted, and that other people would like it too! I also found my passion for textiles. I love every aspect of them all the way down to their chemical make up. I spend most of my time now teaching sewing lessons, sewing and designing for local designers. Over all I do what I love and am glad that I can share that with you!
